Phase 58
Release 1 0 Gate
m3OS defines and validates what "1.0" actually means. The phase produces an explicit support matrix, release gates, non-goals, and documentation commitments for either a headless/reference 1.0 or a broader local-system milestone if the optional graphical branch is ready.
Learning goal
Understand why release engineering is an architectural discipline rather than an administrative afterthought.

Why this phase matters
m3OS defines and validates what “1.0” actually means. The phase produces an explicit support matrix, release gates, non-goals, and documentation commitments for either a headless/reference 1.0 or a broader local-system milestone if the optional graphical branch is ready.
How it works in m3OS
The roadmap entry defines the learning scope for this phase; a deeper implementation doc has not been matched yet.
How it builds on earlier phases
This phase builds on Audio And Local Session and turns that foundation into Release 1 0 Gate.
Implementation outline
- Draft the support matrix and release non-goals for the headless/reference 1.0 story.
- Decide whether the local-system branch is part of the same release or explicitly deferred.
- Define the final validation gate bundle and evidence trail.
- Align top-level docs, roadmap docs, and learning-doc indexes with the release promise.
- Record the versioning policy and release communication posture.
- Publish the release-gate checklist and the chosen support boundary.
Task progress snapshot
No checklist tasks were discovered for this phase yet.
Documentation targets
- Documentation deliverables have not been listed yet.
Deferred follow-on work
- Broader hardware certification and distribution-style packaging promises
- Large runtime ecosystems as release blockers
- A full desktop claim if the local-system branch is not yet ready
- Advanced CI/lab automation beyond what the support matrix requires

How real OSes differ
- Mature releases usually have much more automation, hardware lab coverage, packaging, and support staffing than m3OS should assume here.
- The important habit to borrow is disciplined promise-making, not industrial-scale release process.
- A small but honest 1.0 is more valuable than a sprawling roadmap that never becomes a stable release.
Success criteria
- A written 1.0 support matrix exists that starts from the Phase 53 bounded headless/reference baseline, with explicit supported workflows, hardware scope, and non-goals.
- The project has a documented validation bundle that extends the Phase 53 gate bundle with any Phase 55 hardware-specific gates.
- The docs explicitly state whether 1.0 is headless/reference-only or also includes the local-system branch.
- Top-level docs, roadmap docs, and version references all reflect the same release promise.
- Later work such as toolchains, GitHub integration, Node.js, and Claude Code is explicitly framed as 1.x growth if not part of the chosen release.
- Phase 53 gates have already passed on the post-53a allocator baseline (the Phase 53/53a closure rule is a prerequisite, not re-evaluated here).

Phase 57
PlannedAudio And Local Session
m3OS supports a minimal local interactive session that feels like a system rather than a demo: there is a defined graphical session entry path, a basic terminal or launcher workflow, and audible PCM output on the supported platform.
Phase 59
PlannedCross Compiled Toolchains
m3OS can host larger post-1.0 development tools built on the host and bundled into the disk image. git, Python, and Clang become routine parts of the developer environment instead of future one-off experiments.
